PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Used Book Sale to Fund Early Childhood Literacy Initiative at the OPL
Ottawa (September 8, 2006) - The Friends of the Ottawa Public Library and CBC Ottawa are sponsoring a Used Book Sale on Friday, Sept. 15 at the CBC building on Sparks Street from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The sale is in celebration of the Ottawa Public Library’s 100th anniversary and in aid of a new early childhood reading program called Every Child Ready to Read.
Over 10,000 gently used books; many priced at $2 and under, will be available for purchase. Proceeds from the sale go toward promoting literacy for pre-school children. The Every Child Ready to Read program aims to prevent problems in children’s school years by encouraging parents to foster early literacy skills at home, even before their children can read or talk. Current research shows that it is never too early to provide children with basic pre-reading skills.
