Can people please check out my website and provide some constructive criticism? I cobbled together something quasi-functional, but I need to know what needs to be improved. Currently I know that I need to add real links and that to set up the french translated versions of pages.

The site is www.genesisoflegend.com

I have just finished writing the crude first draft of my RPG system. This is only the portion of the rules used to play the game (including character creation) and does not include the storyteller section. Still, it means that I have enough of the skeleton assembled for a playtest next month or so.

The word count thus far is approximately 32K, though this is missing at least another couple thousand words worth of examples. That is also only half of the final product. Still, I think that is about the correct length for the game at this stage of development. I think the final product will be about 80k or so at this current guesstimate.

I will try to use this period of time to do some basic editing of the last paragraph, preparing quick reference sheets and perhaps even work on the website content for some more respectable web presence. In either case, I will be hardly resting on my laurels though I might permit myself a little more sleeping time and a little less ceaseless toil.

This is me in my happy place; I have managed to secure a competent alpha playtest group for my game and they will likely be available in the new year. I will be filling in a hiatus from Zenten who is normally running an Exalted game during that time slot. While he is off caring for the ever growing family, I will be able to run a very crude version of my new system.

The key reason that this makes me so happy is I get a rock solid deadline. I should be able to have a completed draft of chapters 1-3, the first discrete part of the book. A deadline like this is essential for timely completion of work and I know that the results of the playtest will _significantly_ improve my final product. My tentative goal is to have my rules and other mechanics in the system completed by early summer 2010 and to have the text of those three chapters edited in a pre-layout fashion by the end of 2010. Meanwhile, I should have written part of my draft for chapters 3-6 during that time period.

I must remember that I don't really have a time limit and I should focus on making the best possible product. At the same time, I do appreciate progress. If I tend to be slacking in my writing, please do harass me.

My life has been generally pleasant it seems. I have had nothing terribly noteworthy going on, simply my usual multi-tasking insanity. I have been slowly working on my book and with luck I will be able to resolve a particular thorny issue in the game design process. It's one of those Gordian knots I am in the midst of untangling the slow way, as the fast way would involve cutting my work to pieces. I hope to finish the first half of the book in very crude form by mid-october and run my next playtest sometime this fall. At least that is the plan.

In other events, work is somehow continuing to go wonderfully. I will be off to the east coast at the end of the month for a national conference with my coordinators for work. This will officially by my first instance of travel for work and it should be fun. I will finally be able to get some decent seafood and perhaps even cheap lobster. :)

I just recently got my backpay for about a year's worth of work, which certainly helps with my minuscule long-term savings. My finances are finally becoming less stupid, though it will still take me a long while before I have any significant amount of savings. Heck, I plan on gambling with some of those savings on my business venture as well so there are moderate chances that I will have even less. Oh well, it's not like I am retiring next week; I think I have time to save up.

Oh yeah

Also finally finish that edit of "Fallen Angels, Rebel Tears".

Initial Word Count: Less then 8,683 words.
Final Word Count: 10,681 words

Yes, it did grow by almost exactly 2k words during the editing process. It was necessary to clean things up and explain matters. Hell, the last section alone took a thousand words to complete.

It has been sent to both editors (Gmail for Frances, Hotmail for Kerry).

Yay. :)

Must finish

I am very close to the end of my piece of fiction, any much longer and my generous editors will be most unhappy with me. I will try to get done within the next two days, then i will send it to both [livejournal.com profile] torrain and [livejournal.com profile] waterspyder if they don't mind.

Oh, and i suppose i should also do my 15 page paper aswell...

Progress: 10,047 words out of 10,381 total words processed.
Notes: Gyah, the last bit is stretching out considering i will need to elaborate for almost another page worth of text. This is why i'm not a writer. Just need to finish tomorrow... Then sending it off two my editors in series before i can finally stop.

Progress: 8713 words out of 9851 total words processed.
Notes: Finally working on it again and i managed to finish off the 2nd last section. There is only the finale remaining and that shouldn't take me more then a month to finish. :P Only the single hardest section remaining, but it should be the most rewarding one.

Then i pass it off to my two beautiful editors whom i expect to rend it apart into mere filaments of muscle and bone.

I fixed a few scraps of the fiction, i only have two sections remaining and they await my final reworking before i can send it off to the skilled/brutal final editors. I am still greatly irked that my job is slowing this down, but it should be finishable. I just need to find an evening which i can dedicate to this task without interupting chores or exhustion setting in.

Base Document: Version 1

Progress: 7287 words out of 9555 total words processed.
Notes: The fifth and sixth sections were dealt with. I made a major structural change in that i merged those two sections into one. Thanks to my noble editors whom inspired this because it was certainly needed.
I found a continuity error of doom in there. I said that "A few days" had passed between Sagun and Michael's pronouncement in section 5. In section 6, immediatly after that pronouncement, Narmiel had a flashback of a scene that happened a "while back" yet that scene could have only taken place post-Sagun. *shakes head* So glad i caught that one.

Progress: 3773 words out of 9051 total words processed.
Notes: Third section done. Chief changes are that the layer-nature & intangibility of the celestials was elaborated upon and more flavour text about the personalities of some of the characters was added.
