So this evening I actually practiced for pretty much the entire two hours in Iaido rather then my usual Jodo. This means I actually swung a metal sword around and worked on the basics to some useful ends. It was very enlightening and I need to continue to work on my swordwork. My lack of skill with the blade is actually somewhat limiting me in Jodo and learning Iaido could certainly be of some value to me.

Additionally, I ran into a fellow with a 6 foot staff on my commute home. We wound up showing each other our styles and discussing the relative merits of each. It was most enlightening and I must pursue other staff-based arts in the future. His style was quite different from mine and I appreciate the different approach. I could see an excellent synthesis coming into being if I could simply "collect" about 3-4 different staff arts. Oh well I do have more then a few years to work on this.

I am watching the Koryu video which I purchased during the seminar.

1) Holy crap they are good.
2) Koryu are beautiful, being the more diverse whole of Jodo and more combat worthy.
3) ... they showed how to use the same brutal Jo techniques for sword vs sword confrontations. Ben, you have to see this video. You too could be frighteningly effective against a swordsman.

I just recieved by beautiful new Bo staff, tapered japanese white oak with a length of 6 feet. *smiles* Which brings my total weaponry to a Bo staff, Jo staff and a bokken with some rattan sticks to come.
