Dog over dinner
Feb. 22nd, 2007 12:42 amOk, i get it. My mom's mid-life crisis is pretty blatant and i suppose i should stop caring at this point. She was determined to get get the dog a while back and her behaviour has tripped over the line of obsessive. She made my sister "share" birthday celebrations, including cake, with the dog. She put the freeking complete cake on the ground in front of the dog for a "cute picture". Said cake was vanilla rather then chocolate for my sis because of course, chocolate is bad for dogs...
After that fun i shouldn't be surprised at all of what happened today. One of our cardinal rules is that thou shalt not be late for diner. Normally said even happens at 6.00pm and there is hell to pay if you are expected and not present at that time. Well, i volunteered to make the folks a nice meal today on my closest thing to a day off (where i only had ~9 hours spent on assignments). Twas pork souvlaki made from scratch, with baked potatoes and roasted onions/green pepper. You all know where this is going. Yes, she wasn't home by 5:55 for the dinner ready for 6pm. She wasn't home by 6:10. She was over 15 minutes late, leaving us to wait watching dinner cool while she was out. Where? Taking the dog for another walk. "Maggie met Hogan and they had such fun.". She would have been gone for anther 15 minutes easily if we hadn't called her on the cell phone, enquiring where the hell she was.
I'm sorry if it makes me selfish, but the dog having a longer romp with her friend does not take higher priority then being present for a home-made family dinner lovingly prepared by one's son. A dinner which was, oddly enough, surprisingly tasty if a bit on the cold side.
Oh well, at least the dog makes _her_ happy.
