That is a bloody good day
Sep. 20th, 2007 06:18 pmWent to the RVCA for my volunteering today. Nice drive followed by a scenic work location. Volunteering with good, respectable professionals in my field whom are laid back and relaxed while still being intelligent. I worked on two bits of grunt work. The first was data entry of logs from the field where streams/rivers were examined. Total environmental data in 100 meter sections which are linked to geographic coordinates via GIS for easy comprehensive analysis. Simple work which has a purpose (which i understand). The second piece of grunt work was extraction and counting of various arthropods from water samples (preserved in alcohol). Much picking around the jars full of plant material and other detritus with tweezers until the bugs are found and moved into a relatively empty jar of alcohol for later identification. This is the cleaning up of the samples which i will be acquiring over then next month worth of field work. I loved the day and am eager to do more. Granted, this might simply be the fact that for once i have found a productive use for my training and academic efforts for a tangible good.
Oh, and there are other perks. I got a call this afternoon on lunch from Danier leather, arranging an interview/testing there at 2:30pm tomorrow. I also got a call 3-4 hours later from Futureshop concerning seasonal work there in the computer department. Either one would work out well, though i suspect that Danier would me paying better then Futureshop. Meh, whichever one offers me the job first will be the one i will take. I might wind up working on saturday nights and sunday mornings (fragging certain gaming and Jodo) but that is unavoidable.
Great day at the office + 2 part time job offers isn't too shabby.
