Oops, the merits of self reflection

I came to the realization why exactly I have been able to run games which people apparently like despite my seeming inability to play PC's whom don't irritate player and storyteller alike. I tend to try to make characters who play well with others and contribute to the game in some way. I figure, the least that I can do is make the game interesting for others involved and get myself some interesting roleplaying.
It never seems to occur to me that my characters and play-style should be made to fit the moods/themes/settings provided first and foremost. I haven't emphasized this in the past to a sufficient degree which has led to an angel-immitating fae, a non-functional vamp, a vamp who tried far too hard to avoid his condition and a ghoul cook/medic in a heroic game.
Interesting character concepts, but they ran counter to what others were looking for in the game. I added flavour for certain, but adding cumin and horseradish on a pizza is not going to make a tasty pizza. Valid flavours, wrong places for them. I can run my own games decently because I subconsciously understand the themes/moods/setting of my own game. That plus the fact that I
So yeah, sorry about that folks. Now that I know the problem, I ought to be better at avoiding repeating those incidences.
