Things i learned from conservation biology
1) Every lb of farmed salmon needs 5 lbs of wild caught fish to create
2) Farmed Shrimp requires destruction of mangrove stands = bad
3) Tilipia are insanely good for the environment, preventing bad algeal blooms and consuming biotic waste. A school put thier left overs from lunches into a pond and had large tilipia roasts 2/year.
4) Giant clams were uses as a building material and almost went extinct. They were saved and due to handy bio bits we managed to recover them back into a viable and healthy population.
6) Elephants havn't been dying off due to the ivory trade. The ivory trade flourished due to the dead elephants caused by habitat loss (or elephants eating farmer's crops and being shot legally).
7) The Dodo tree was saved by being fed to turkeys.
8) The slashing and burning process in the rainforest is being stopped thanks to GMO's which can keep the soil fertile for more then a couple years.
9) "Nuke them and see what kind of wierd mutant kids they produce" was a matter of course in the previous plant breeding paradigm.
