More respect for the movie "Constantine".
May. 5th, 2007 03:11 pmYou have to respect the people making that movie, trying to aim something for the wider movie audience while still holding true to the original graphic novels. Especially when you realize there was likely a bit of a battle between the marketing people and the lovers of the graphic novels. There are two scenes that show that the latter felt bad about some of the changes.
1) Chas dies, with his last words being "You're right. It's not like the books."
2) During the very end as he takes the gum rather then the cigarette you hear him say "Some people like it, some people don't" which points out in my mind that the marketing people forced him to abandon his bad habits rather then show the traditional mettle of John Constantine. That seemed like an apology to the watchers whom care while allowing the mass market to enjoy.
And the special effects were masterfully done.
