jagashAt the very least, I am done the single class of theory which I am taking during this year off. I handed in my final take-home exam in Landscape Ecology today, rewarding feeling that. ~8 pages total consisting of a research proposal concerning the landscape ecology aspects of the beaver-willow mutualism. Hell, I even managed to leave enough time to finish it off with a moderate level of quality.
I also have accepted my personal habit of being frequently inspired with odd notions. Most of them are theoretically reasonable and have logical support, yet I tend to have the good sense not to start 99% of them. I know better then to start something then quit before it is finished, which means that my flights of fancy remain relatively benign. I once made a well reasoned proposal for digging a pond on my grandparents land for fishing back when I was rather young. I did all the math, did the research, made a model of lego, the whole thing. I assumed that i could get it done if I spent all of the vacation digging for 12 hours a day. The grandparents declined gracefully, but I have continued to think of odd ventures. Examples below.
*A website wherein I would provide reviews of RPG systems, providing well reasoned explanations of the pros, cons and design elements of the various systems out there. A particular focus would be on the free systems.
*Contacting all of the Ecology professors in North America and asking which 3 papers they found most influential in their understanding of the field. Afterwards, posting the references for the resulting list so that students in a position like mine could know what best to read.
*A website strictly for my creative tidbits, freely available for writers, artists or the like to use. Game ideas, concepts for fiction novels, interesting character concepts, random art, philosophies or the like.
Yeah, my current flight of fancy is to record all of my flights of fancy in case some of them become useful eventually.
