Wintereenmas 2010 achieved!

I must say that I enjoyed a relatively quiet yet pleasant Christmas.   My mother gifted me with some photos taken from my balcony, looking out over the river.   While it will be a challenge to mount, I will have a perpetual sunset over my couch.  Throw in a few books, a bottle of mango liqueur and I am relatively happy.  

I also provided a few gifts over the holidays.   Shiny new knives for my mother who _really_ needed them, a good coffee grinder for my folks and a ipod for myself.  I neatly counterbalanced my consumerism with charity, gifting 3 water wells for villages in Bangladesh.   My parents,  sister's household and another special someone received email notices on Christmas day saying that a well was donated in their respective names.  

So, I have to say that I am satisfied with my Christmas overall.   What about yourselves?  What single gift defined your Christmas?   It can either be a gift you gave or one you received?   Most curious.

My BIL and his wife (my husband's sister) recieved a Wii and wiifitboard from us as part of the Christmas family present exchange. They were overwhelmed, just the looks on their faces when they opened it, completely stunned. They were soon on it, having a ball!

The present that we received that gave us the most joy was a local musician's CD about the river our city is on, and that we spend a lot of time on, this time of year. I'm in the Southern Hemisphere, and while you northern guys are freezing over hot meals, Boxing Day here, for example, hit 40C, which is 104F.

One of the songs is called Big Yellow Kayak, which is what we pedaddle :-)

It was such a thoughtful gift.

And my mum gave me a wonderful anodized purple waterbottle which is very cool.

Nice, I am very glad at times to have cool Christmases. I was hearing horror stories about some Australians who were cooking the full traditional turkey or goose dinners, oven going full tilt on Christmas Day. Much more reasonable when it's -20 outside rather then +40.

Cold meats and salads much more reasonable with such heat. Just have to take care things don't go off.
